hiya

stumbled across your blog and sending out a flag of friendship as i'm about to start on a similarly ambitious and some might say foolhardy adventure. in the final stages of quitting my job in Tokyo before heading back to Aus (i'm one of those crazy travelling aussies) to prepare for 2-3 year overland trip from Japan through Korea, China, Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America and back to Japan (details to be added then changed later).

so yeah, hi :o)

Wow! i just stumbled on your blog while searching for flights on the bootsnall site. You have amazing courage and i too will get on this someday. Unfortulately i dont have the funds to buy a house and then sell it. I just graduated with my BA in theatre too and am moving to LA in a week to give it a go for a while. I have a dog so i dont know how i would leave her. Anyway, just wanted to let you know how inspiring your trip and pics are and if you are in LA or back in LA now maybe you could show me around. LaMitchell13@yahoo.com is my email. Thanks for your courage!!

I wish I'd come across your blog earlier, but I'm throughly enjoying the read (just started the 2006 archive so I have a fair ways to go)...

Props to you for doing it, and I look forward to the stories and tips that I'm sure I will be getting out of your experience to fuel my own! (I'm off to Asia for an undetermined amount of time next year...)

Thanks Rob!
PS. Will you be updating your blog with your re-integration into the US?

Hello Rob,
I have just spent the past two hours mesmorized by your blogs and incredible photos. You are a gifted artist. I, too, live in Riverside county having moved from Orange County in 2000. I have a son, aged 25, who is also a wanderlust. He has traveled throughout Europe, Mexico, Central America, The Maldives, Indonesia and is currently in Australia with plans to travel throughout New Zealand and Fiji before returning "home". I think you both "have it right". Continue "living the dream" Rob and May God Bless You, Reward You and Guide You on your journey. And, May He Keep You Healthy and Return You Safely Home to your Loved Ones. That is my "Mother's Prayer" for my son, and ditto for you Rob. Travel on and enjoy the journey.

RObert

Thanks for this sight. I'm searching for ideas
for my first trip. Thinking of hitchhiking around the USA for awhile. I'm 49. I have 6 great children, ages 15, 17, 19, 21, 26 & 28.
I'm just fed up with the rat race. I met a radio celeb several months ago and he encouraged me to head for europe, find something to export and make my first million. Kids are pretty sure I've lost it. Any encouragement is appreciated.

Fantastic that you are doing this! I just got back from a trip to India, amazing place, you are going to love it! I was wondering though, after reading your pricing breakdown, though tentative for each country, and the amount of time you want to spend there, I was wondering where you would be staying. I commend you if you are able to stay within budget for food, accomodations, knickknacks and entrance fees! Are you staying with friends? Hostels? If not, let me know the secret! I love to travel and anything that can save me money is a must. Anyway, good luck!

Go for it! My husband and I went around the world for our honeymoon. Took 6 months to do it. WE LOVED IT! We got back home jobless, pennyless, homeless. Like you, we had family support, who provided us with temporary housing. It was just a matter of weeks when we got back on our feet financially (back then computer programmers were very high in demand). We have friends who traveled through Europe working on odd jobs. But, be careful. Best if you had a traveling companion. Also, one of our favorite stops was Japan. We stayed in the hostels. Very friendly, very clean. Natives, especially students, were very eager to practice their English!
