Little Daredevils
February 25th, 2011:

Yes, I am aware I already posted a blog this week about one of Southern California’s Theme Parks, but when my sister called me and said she had 4 (soon-to-expire) free passes to Knotts and asked if we would take our nieces, of course Felicia and I leapt at the opportunity to hang out with Madalyn and Regan. I, being the curmudgeon I am, demanded we go on a weekday to avoid the crowds. So yesterday, on a chillingly cool Californian winter day Felicia and I took the little ladies out for a day of thrills.
One of the things I forgot about going to an amusement park is the sheer quantity of energy that seems to explode from children when they get within a 100 yards of a mechanized death trap. The roller coasters had almost no lines, in fact I think our longest wait of the whole day was about 7 minutes, but that didn’t deter Madalyn and Regan from the necessity of running absolutely EVERYWHERE. I vaguely remember a time in my life when I too would get off a ride, only to run full speed around, through dozens of turnstiles and be back in the seat in mere moments. Fortunately I am blessed with having long legs, so I only needed to maintain a brisk walk to keep up with the girls throughout the day.
We went on everything that was open at least a couple times each, and Madalyn had me on any rides that went upside down at least half a dozen times each. Regan unfortunately is 47 1/2″ tall and needed to be 48″ or 54″ for most of the rides, but do you think that stopped us? Never. Felicia and I quickly taught her how to take a deep breath and lift her heels inside of her boots so she could gain the needed 1/2″ and be allowed on all but the fiercest rides.
All in all I couldn’t have asked for a better day with my two favorite little people and my spectacular wife – who really doesn’t relish being on loop-de-loop rollercoasters, actually went on a couple of crazy rides with Madalyn. Ah, the perils of being an Aunt!
