Traveling Light and Alone

April 20, 2011:

Travel, Light, Camera, Gear

It’s been a long time since I have done a solo trip, even one as short as the next week will be.   Felicia will be heading off for the next 6 days on a mother/daughter getaway to northern Malaysia, so I decided to head to the world’s oldest rainforest and third largest island – Borneo.  It has that magical ring of adventure and was for a long time one of the last great unexplored land masses.  Just imagining it bring images of Martin and Osa, machete in hand hacking their way through the tropical underbrush.   Although I don’t expect my expedition to be quite that arduous (it’s not the 1930′s anymore), it should still be fun to check out a new place, with camera in hand.

Speaking of camera – I am going super light this time.  A Canon 5D, 35mm f/1.4, 135mm f/2 and a f/1.4 extender (to help with any wildlife if I need more reach).  No computer, no big zooms, and very few lens changes – just camera, a couple pairs of shorts and a pile of t-shirts stuffed in a small backpack.  This means my blogs will be slow in coming and a little behind the actual events unfolding, but nonetheless I will attempt to maintain the suspense you have come to expect from Mom Says I’m Running Away.

Wish me well and I will keep the updates coming.
