December 21st, 2012:
We’re back in Singapore now, but since I’ve been lazy with the blogging, I thought I would post a few more images from our last few days in the Philippines. Felicia and I spent the last 3 nights at El Nido’s Miniloc resort where we continued to overeat and sweat in the tropic sun. We snorkled, drank beers, had massages and drank from young coconuts – essentially doing all the things you are entitled to when you have this sort of relaxation vacation. Even the camera stayed in the room more often than not just so we could enjoy each others company.
The very last night, right before making our way back to Singapore, we were treated by the resort to a private dinner on the pier, surrounded by candles and a blanket of stars. Now, I know it sounds cheesy and if they hadn’t taken it upon themselves to surprise us with this meal, we wouldn’t have asked for it, but once alone with each other with the twinkling stars and lapping waves, it actually became quite the romantic experience with my wife. Immediately after dessert though, the rain came pouring down and we ran off the pier, back to our room where the romance quickly died off as the left side of my head started throbbing from an ear infection I picked up from snorkeling. Felicia and I joked that I must have a jellyfish in my head and it’s slowing eating my brain.
Around midnight, after handfuls of aspirin, I was screaming in agony and we hit up the resort’s clinic for some stronger drugs which would keep me doped up until we arrived back in Singapore 36 hours later and I was able to visit Felicia’s family doctor who prescribed me half a dozen various things to make me all better. I was in constant pain for about 4 days from start to finish (during which I was preparing myself mentally to lose my hearing in the left ear), and I am still on antibiotics and have pressure in my head. Very horrible, but as of now, I just may live.
