The 7D and a Feature

My First:

I have been hired to be the Cinematographer (or Director of Photography) for my first feature length film later this month.  We are shooting a 95 minute film in 12 days so our schedule will be very tight and fast paced.  We have decide to shoot using the just released Canon 7D which will shoot 24 frames/second in 1080 HD Video.  If this is all too technical, dont worry, just know the film will look astounding at a quality that wouldn’t have been possible even 1 year ago.  We are planning to take full advantages of this new technology and use it to the best of our advantage.  More about this project will be posted as we enter production in a couple weeks.

Other than planning out the technical aspects of this production I spent today hanging out with my mom in Huntington Beach, eating cheap lobster and taking pictures. A good day, and I am currently stuffed beyond belief.

  1. So did they kick you down a 7D so that you can get used to it prior to the filming? :-)

What lenses are you going to have at your disposal? Fast primes would rock for shallow DOF and low light filming, but zooms would be cool for panning/zooming effects.

I had heard that there were some serious flaws with the 5d MarkII video mode (mainly in controlling exposure and focus). Did they upgrade the controls for the 7D?
